DO YOU KNOW THE POLLUTION LEVELS IN CHENNAI AND WHAT WE INHALE DAILY - DO WE care really

Come winter, the trend which increases is sneezing and wheezing with increasing pollution levels - contribution vehicular emissions, buring of waste oil, construction debris et al

The dip in temperature combined with moisture in the air forms a thick layer of smog [smoke from vehicles trapped in fog]. According to TNPCB the higest respiratory suspended particulate mtaerial [RSPM] is witnessed at Vallalar Nagar [119] followed closely by T Nagar [104] which are above the permissible level of 100.

Both these areas show a higiher value as they have a very fair amount of commercial activity besides being densely populated.

RSPM is formed due to emissions from vehicles and burning of industrial waste, construction debirsw and is easily inhaled by human beings. However it was pointed out that in Chennai, vehicekle emissions are the major contribution to RSPM as njo major industry is in the city or its suburbs.

December is always saddled with increased RSPM levels as cold air ie heavy and settles down ina thick layer close to teh ground Since thre exits lots of moisture the smoke let out by automobiles get stuck in this cold layer. Hence, what we have is a thick layer of air mixed with nitrogen, sulphur dioxide as also dust particles hovering just above the ground This poses problems specifically during the wee hours and late night when the temperature dips and remains at lower levels, for both motorist and pedestrians alike.

An alarming repor tis that we have reached the fourth place from twelfth on respiratory problems whose result is sometimes fatal too. This attacks all ages and if found one in every eight person. Children more specifically are prone to asthma and bronchitis. What do we do to reduce the RSPM.

HOW DO WE COMBAT THIS DANGER
Every one of us can venture - YOU CAN DEFINITELY DO THIS BIT - to contribute to combat this by

- usage of vehicles only when necessary
- combine transport amngst friend where use one vehicle for a few to stroll around
- judicious burning - if not avoided - of oil based material
- wrap round construction sites to cumulate debris particles than letting in air
- avoid felling of trees
- encourage planting of trees

ARE WE GAME TO GO WITH THE MANTRA 'GO GREEN' TO SAVE THE PLANET AND THE HUMAN BEEINGS TOO IN IT

RAJNI THE BOSS A PHENOMENON SUPER STAR TURNING SIXTY TODAY – A TRIBUTE AND SALUTE TO HIM

The Super Star – the unparalleled person of our generation - name itself conveys too many things to too many individuals. All will of course agree with me at 60 he is still strong on screen with a following the world over He has in left behind the popular heroes of yesteryears like Hollywood John Wayne, Sean Connery – the James Bond –Sylvester Stallone and the likes and the Bollywood heroes like the Big B Amitabh Bachan and the he man Dharmendra who ruled the rostrum at Bollywood. He did pride to all of us by earning and still retaining the ‘super star’ title and Kollywood in particular over three decades and counting still.
Turning 60 today one will like to look at his career path – Billa [1980] which earned this title Super Star to the technical excellence Enndiran today – not a soft walk this He should have had met many a phenomenon in the over zealous and jealous tinsel world where like the Indian frogs no one would see someone climbing the ladder and worse still retaining position there. This can only be achieved by an excellent disposition and deportment to hold all in sway even today. He was perhaps the only one – or may be one amongst the few – I have known to have accepted failure of one of his films [Baba] and giving back the money to the industry – be to distributors/producers theatre owners. There was no necessity for any actor to give back the money but it was Rajni who broke the rule and was magnanimous enough to do this fete.
At 60, the man of the masses , a face of inspiration, appeals to generations without fail, because of his constant reinvention. As Balachander once said this seat of a Super Star can never be succeeded by any one but by the one and the only RAJNI. On the same stage, as is common with him, RAJNI said that this seat is only a transition and can be occupied by any one in the years to come. This shows RAJNI’s simplicity and broad minds but I tend to subscribe to Balachander than RAJNI as there cannot not be one who appeal to the masses like what RAJNI has – from children to the aged all at a time in equanimity.
60 year old RAJNI off screen always looks for the pulse of the people to continuously run the wheels of reinvention and style - a perfect transformer. His inspiration, as he has said, was Shatrugun Sinha of Bollywood whose stylish ways of acting he has always was interested in and observed with awe. On the sets, we were told, he was an inspiration to his co-artists too, which again is a laudable think few of us practice but preach more. Do we tolerate our colleagues like that – a thought to ponder.
Sixty year old was the man who gave films like Baasha – one amongst few films which has scores and scores of repeated audience. True even today I get gloved whenever this film is telecast on the visual medium the Television. Not to talk the rest of the films like Arunachalam, Annamalai, Guru Sishyan to name a few. It is not a joke to move up to this stardom by a Conductor and that he would only know the trial and tribulations he has had undergone to come to this stature of a phenomenon – perhaps next to the ever green and hero worship in the legendary M G R.
Even at 60, RAJNI is considered a man of simplicity and of high human value. To further subscribe to this I need to say something on him too which I have heard from a friend of mine who was associated with ASHRAM a innovative school run by his family. It happened a few years back when my friend was working there They were doing a catalogue /brochure for the ASHRAM and work spilled over to the wee hours that day Past one am RAJNI came in his new car – just registered that day - to ASHRAM and was very surprised to see people working that time He asked them to pack off and asked his driver to drop them home in his newly registered car saying that it is our responsibility to ensure that people working with us are taken care of fully and he just waited there at the school lying on the floor with his right hand under his head as pillar. A thing we cannot comprehend of a man at that stature – a great man that he is.
Sixty years RAJNI in another incident - which I always make it a point to keep saying again and again to people as I adore him for it - is that he was sitting as a beggar at the Raghavendra Temple when a lady dropped Rs 2 as alms to that beggar. After taking the alms he just worshipped the presiding deity Raghavendra and left the temple on his luxurious car. The lady who gave alms was surprised and learnt that, that was the phenomenon Super Star RAJNI. She asked him why did he sit as a beggar at the temple, to which he said that we should remember and realize that were are always a ‘beggar in front of Him and pray for alms of His good wishes”. A thing I fully subscribe too and great to realize that this is one of the similarities I probably share with him.

I close this saying Hats Off to him and standing in Salute to him – Do I see you joining me ??? Let us wish him all the best and pray God to bestow His good wishes on him in the years to come and give him joyous moments with his family.

Are you stressed and depressed then read on.
You should support yourselves when you are a victim of depression and avoid totally blaming yourself for anything that went wrong.
Be your own friend and help yourself when you stumble or fall and start all afresh.
Feel of depression usually engulfs all of us in this modern world where most of us chase money and comfort and give in to such stresses and depressions. It is a feel of disappointment, self pity and shatteirng of self confidence [the least that should happen to an individual]. Depression as the word goes mean exactly ‘feeling low’.

HOW DO WE COMBAT – HERE ARE FEW TIPS WHICH CAN BE TRIED OUT
• An element of self pat and appreciation should be practiced like “I am fine” “ I can do”
• Try and identify those who pull you down and disassociate with them – this is not the time to encourage such elements
• Divert yourself and engage in going way out to help people in distress which will take you away from the depressed mood
• Remember a good friend and send him a mail to have the feel of sweet memories which can be a relief and give the impression of feel good
• Engage yourself with children at home – helping them in home work playing with them – which will keep your mind ‘positive’
• Engage yourself in creative and confidence boosting activities
• Avoid wallowing in the pool of self pity – the biggest evil that should not beget you
• Never dwell in the past, which is anyway a history you cannot change - where you had failed but take them as experience learnt to achieve higher milestones
• Improve your confidence level by patting yourself – none shuns appreciation and self appreciation is the biggest self motivation too
• Start on exercise regime as it can create happy harmones like serotonin and stimulates goodness and optimism in you – no great exercise but just a brisk walk can do
• Support yourself and never ever venture to blame yourself for mistakes as you are the best friend to yourselves to help when you stumble or fall to start all afresh
• Laugh enough – Laughter is the best medicine God has bestowed on humans only - to engage yourselves with comedy in and around you
• Avoid those friends who pass time in pub hopping as they compound your problems and anxiety
• Bring meaning into life by indulging in positive activities by being helpful and generous to people
• Lead simple life and find joy in natural and simple activities
• Last but not the least failure is only a lesson not a permanent situation

FAILURE AT TIMES IS INEVITABLE AS ALL OFUS FAIL BUT START AGAIN AT THE SAME PROBLEM VIEWING IT FROM A DIFFEENT ANGLE ALWAYS GET OUT OF THE PROBLEM CIRCLEAND DO NOT/TEND TO BE WITH THE PROBLEM THAN THE SOLUTION
WORLD NEVER ENDS HERE AND IT IS YOU WHO CARRY THE WORLD IN YOU – NOW HOLD THE WORLD AND SHOW THE DIFFERENCE WITH YOUR POSITIVE ATTITUDE AND DEPORTMENT

Erosion of human value in the society

In any forum, we all realize it is always bad to start with a negative note - much less a negative subject like this erosion of human value in the society but we are helpless today! Human value is on the verge of extinction - A major concern to those who profess and practice it.

This is more in today’s industry where all professionals chase

THE MONSTER – Money - and in this pursuit sacrifice human value Please allow me to pull a leaf out of my own experience

When I was in a manufacturing industry where I had started my career at Chennai way back in 1976 – half of you would not have been born or would have been in a very tender age, I used to go round the shop floor only to be welcomed with a beaming smile from one and all there – a blue collar culture prevalent in manufacturing set up

Later, I joined ,to further my career, an I T industry and found that none had the time even to smile and greet you when you cross each other I was so puzzled I thought I should venture to replenish culture here !

From then on I utilised all forums and platforms I have taken the liberty of speaking to impress upon human values and have been fortunate to meet with little success though. Let us look at one of the stories that most of us are perhaps familiar with – a mail that I got time and again for us to learn how pathetic the society today is :

A child, whose parents were working Professionals, fends herself independently . She started collecting money from her parents daily and saved it in a hundi and daily used to look at what the savings had been till it finally got filled up .

With pride she took the ‘hundi’ to her parents saying that she has saved all that were given to her by them all these days Her parents were very proud too of their child’s disposition and appreciated her efforts and idea of saving what all were given to her with little knowledge of what the child was to say about it. She looked at her parents appreciably acknowledging their pride and posed a question to them as to what they were being paid by their employer per hour.

The parents, while wondering what the child was up to, however said that they were paid around $ 20 per hour. On hearing this she went to open her ‘hundi’ and found about $50 in it – all in small changes though. She brought the small changes to her parents and gave them $ 20 each with tears rolling down her cheeks. Her parents asked her what was this all about and why was she giving them what they gave her all these years and why was she crying. She said, here you are Mummy and Daddy, I gave $ 20 to each of you only to request to spend an hour each with me.

I felt and always feel very bad and emotionally disturbed too whenever I read this message .

This goes to prove that we are all chasing money without realising what we are sacrificing – the values.

Today, we see specifically in the I T industry people are stressed out and for paucity of time they don’t do justice to their chosen role as a Parent, Husband Wife etc

What does that sum upto :

• We do not respect each other and our ego surfaces every time we see some one
lower in the strata to lose so many good people and things God has
given us to cherish
• Ignore parents who have spent their lifetime for you to be prosperous in the
society only to push them into Old Homes clearly telling them we don’t care
for them anymore
• Sacrifice the value of give-and-take because of depletion of joint stock
families culture

AND

THE MOST DAMAGING THING THAT HAPPENS TODAY IS OF GAP BETWEEN HUSBAND
AND WIFE – A GREAT CONCERN AS THIS INVARIABLY ENDS IN DIVORCE
and leaves their children uncared for.

I am here with this subject only to impress and prevail on each of you upon :

• learn to smile – a unique trait God has given only to human beings
• hold your values – inculcate the habit of give & take
• respect others, as you expect them to
• spend some time with your Parents [the past] , your children
[the future],utilising your time now [the present]
• draw a line between profession and home to be more happier than you are
• find some time to relax to relieve stress which causes lots and lots of
problem with consequent unpleasantness

LAST BUT NOT THE LEAST - UNDERSTAND PEOPLE AND THEIR VALUE TO REDUCE FRICTION AMONGST OURSELVES TO LEAD A LIFE WHICH JUSTIFIES THE VARIOUS ROLES YOU DAWN IN YOUR LIFE LIKE WARDS, PARENTS, BROTHERS, SISTERS ETC
