COBBLER WITH COUPLETS

Have you been down Whites Road If yes you would have been subjected to a unique experience as I was If not, not to worry you can try it out anytime you feel like In fact there was a news item too in The Hindu on this

Cobbler and his strings of couplets

Yes too true to realise a Cobbler just outside Karur Vysya Bank on Whites Road not only indulges in stitching and mending shoes but also to pen a few couplets from the திருக்குறள் [Thirukural]- a famous two liner which caters to all walks of life - displayed both in தமிழ் [Tamil] and English.

His name is Nandakumar- an illiterate [VIII standard]. He writes these couplets himself from திருக்குறள் [Thirukural] on a plank which rests on the junction box with another on the iron grills of the fence and yet another leans at an angle among his belongings on which these couplets.

He has been writing these on a scheduled frequency since the year 1974 and has completed writing all the 1330 couplets eight times till date. He said that there were many on lookers who take a note of this and applauds him on his efforts There were many who have taken pictures on their mobile phones for propagation of this unique effort of a Cobbler. He also claims that he has attained proficiency to write his own lines on philosophy and life.

His passion for this unique hobby makes him allot a small budget in spite of a very meagre earning of Rs 120 a day to carry on with this unique hobby - a stupendous and appreciable habit given his earnings

Are we ready to take a leaf from this cobbler's book???
